Linksify Funding and Review

logo_med_betaLinksify just got a $500K cash infusion from Jon Fisher.  I don’t quite get it to be honest.  It seems no better than managing your contacts in Google, LinkedIn, and Outlook.  In addition, these competitors are certainly established.  I signed up to check it out because the company is in a similar space as my company, Lead411.  The interface looks fine, but I wasn’t able to upload/sync in contacts.  I, first, tried with Google/Gmail and none of my contacts were sync’ed.  I tried it multiple times, but none of them were imported.  The next thing I tried was an Outlook sync, but this feature is not available yet.  I am suprised they would even go through with a beta launch if you don’t have an Outlook sync.  Is that your most important feature?

Dunkin Donuts runs on Freemium?

dunkin-donuts I just got back from my wedding up in Maine yesterday. Great times! :) Coming home I noticed my internet was not working. I couldn’t fix the problem so I had to go out to look for a free wifi spot. I am not that familiar with working outside of my house so I assumed I would just head to Starbucks. I asked the baristas about the wifi and they said it cost $5 an hour, you had to use one of their special cards, and then try to signup online with AT&T. They specifically told me to skip Starbucks and go directly to Dunkin Donuts because they have free wifi! Haha!!! Thanks for the tip!
So this lead me to understand that Dunkin Donuts actually runs on a freemium model. They give you basic free internet service and if you are hungry you can upgrade to get some premium food. I am wondering why Starbucks isn’t running on this model? :)

mySpace’s iLike Acquisition?

imagesTechCrunch is reporting that iLike is going to be acquired by mySpace for $20 Million.  It looks like I am not the only one who is confused at the low offer.  It is confusing because iLike apparently has raised $16.5M AND they have really grown in popularity over the past 12 months.  I highly doubt this is the number, but maybe there was some internal problems and the investors wanted out.

MyWebGrocer No Longer Bootstrapped

mywebgrocer-logoTechCrunch is reporting that mywebgrocer just received $10M in funding.  This is a 10 year old company and it is very rare for a bootstrapped company that is profitable to take venture capital money.  I assume they saw an opportunity to really grow with some capital.  It would be interesting to see their term sheet.
